Driving Rig Prototype

It's coming along. It's actually drivable and still comes apart easily but there are a few things that still have to be done.

  • Stability at the top. It jiggles a little.  Have to figure out some sort of removable cross-bracing that doesn't get in the way. I think i'll also add some dowels in the bottom base.
  • Wiring has to be a little neater.
  • The gear shift is going to have to get it's own lower level.. it's too high up at the moment.
  • I was hoping the pedal were heavy enough to stay on their own to they would be adjustable for people with longer legs than mine but they slide forward when i jump on the brakes or clutch..
  • Stain and trim pieces for a more racing look.
  • The seat has some build in audio components that will have to be hooked up for butt kicking.....

Racing Wheel Selection

I am going to be using the Logitech G27 racing wheel.  It comes with pedals, a 6-speed shifter, and the wheel.
The wiring looks to be a little cumbersome, especially because I want the racing setup to breakdown. I used it on the desktop PC with DIRT 3 and it felt great... I hope to have the basic chassis and mounting points for  the racing setup done by the end of the week (minus staining and varnishing). I'm dying to try out the Top Gear test track in Grand Turismo 5.

And So We Begin.

Our first project is going to be a gaming table.

This table will be able to :

  • B used as a dungeons and dragons map and game tool with a custom written app. It will be controlable from any browser including the iPad.
  • Be setup as a fairly simple coffee table.
  • Multi-touch gaming and demos
  • Controlled my powerful pc with dual/boot 7/8
  • Put into pinball mode with side button
  • Put into driving simulator mode.

I have a feeling this will take over a  year to accomplish with my busy schedule... we'll see how it goes..

Here's a first pic of a slapped together pinball mode.

Welcome. I am always in need of a project... it's just my nature. I don't always complete them... at least to a point that matches the original vision. But as long as I learn something along the way I'm happy.

Another note on follow through... except for my daughter's blog... I have yet to stick to one of these blogs... perhaps because there was no readership... perhaps because life got in the way.

We'll see how it goes.
